The following is a history of the lineage given by the gospel of Matthew of Jesus through Joseph to Abraham.
Not much is known of the lives of most of the fathers mentioned herein. To make this chart I had to improvise a few times. For instance, to make the time between Jacob and Zerubbabel I took the date of Jacobs death to the time that Zerubbabel worked on the temple and averaged it out between all of the fathers listed to get the 70 years for each. I did this on the time from Zerubbabel to Jesus assuming Jesus being born on the year 0 too.
It was notable to me that some claim there are names missing because of the long years between the fathers. I note that the term “my father” or “my son” does not mean there cannot be names left out. They all claimed Abraham as their father, think about it. When the term “begot” or “begat” is used, that is meant to be definitive, but not my father or my son. Matthew used “begot” in his rendition of the lineage.
I also note that the Old Testament(Kings and Chronicles) disagrees with Matthew as Joram did not beget Uzziah. The Old Testament tells us that Joram/Jehoram(the same person at times and at other times there was two of them) begot Ahaziah who begot Joash who begot Amaziah who begot Uzziah/Azariah(the same person). The other malfunction is between Josiah and Jeconiah/Jehoiachin(the same person). Eliakim/Jehoiakim(the same person) is the son of Josiah and Jeconiah/Jehoiachin(the same person) is Jehoiakim’s son.
These glitches do not make the Bible incorrect though, what it does is make you do your homework. The lineage is not broken by leaving someone out. The lineage is still there and unbroken as the Bible does still show this, you just have to look for it. This is why Paul wrote to study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly discerning the Word of Truth.
Legend: the first number is the date of birth of Abram, Isaac and Jacob. The second number is how old they are when they beget their son. The third number is the date of their death. All three are based on the first year of existence being 4000.
The second set of numbers after Jacob is the average amount of years per individual. The years being the year that first number assigns to them. Example: Judah, assigned 70 years as average life span until his son Perez is born. Subtract that from Jacobs death and you get 1677. Perez is then assigned the same 70 years until his son is born making his last number 1607, etc. This same process is given at 50 years apiece later.
When you get to the kings, the years in between are based on the years each reigned as king as taken from Kings and Chronicles.
